MAP's Board of Directors
President
Marion Howard is a member of the faculty of the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, USA, teaching in its graduate programs of Sustainable International Development. She also works as advisor to the Colombian government’s environmental management and sustainable development agency, CORALINA, in the San Andres Archipelago. Her expertise is in environmental planning for coastal and marine resources, protected area development, and community participation.
Vice President
Roy R. "Robin" Lewis III, Certified Professional Wetland Scientist, President, Lewis Environmental Services, Inc., Tampa, Florida, USA, has more than three decades of experience in marine wetland research, publishing more than 70 scientific papers on mangrove and seagrass restoration, and has worked in 11 foreign countries on mangrove restoration projects, including Nigeria, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, Cuba, Mexico, and Costa Rica. www.RoyRLewis.com, www.mangroverestoration.com
Treasurer
Fiona Wilmot runs KeysConnectivity, Inc., St. Petersburg, Florida, USA, which provides support services for stakeholder groups engaged in marine conservation and social justice. She has worked primarily for the National Marine Sanctuary Program in the Florida Keys and also provides assistance to the Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute. She is in the process of applying to graduate school with a view to looking at select coastal communities in the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico and how they adapt to environmental, economic, and political change.
Secretary
Frana Milan has worked for and volunteered with local and
international environmental NGOs in the areas of fund development, management,
communications, community organizing, and outreach and education for nearly a
decade. Currently a Program Manager with the King
County (Wash.
State) Parks and Recreation Division,
Frana earned an MPA and MAIS from University
of Washington, with an emphasis on
environmental policy and non-profit management, and has a BA in Political
Science and French from the Ohio
State University.
Frana has traveled and worked in Europe and Brazil and is fluent in Portuguese
and French. In addition to MAP, Frana volunteers with a variety of community groups in the Seattle area.
Board Member
Ian Baird, co-founder and executive director of the Global Association for People in the Environment (GAPE), a Canadian NGO working in mainland Southeast Asia, is also one of the co-founders of MAP. Between 1995 and 2003 he was the coordinator of the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives in Laos and has also worked extensively with local fisheries in the Mekong River basin in developing community-based co-management approaches. Ian is currently a PhD candidate at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

Daniel Suman, Professor of Marine Affairs & Policy at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS), University of Miami, teaches courses in Environmental Law, Coastal Law, Environmental Planning and the Environmental Impact Statement, Coastal Management, and Latin America and the Environment. Daniel's research efforts focus on coastal management and planning, wetlands management, and marine protected areas in numerous locations, including Florida (USA), Mexico, Panama, Cuba, Nicaragua, Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Italy, Portugal, China, and Vietnam. www.rsmas.miami.edu/divs/maf/People/Faculty/Suman/
