Ben Brown, Indonesia Director
bio for Ben
Ben has worked for 9 years in Indonesia as a community organizer and environmental educator, in addition to 8 years internationally in watershed management, environmental education, community development, and marine biology. As director of MAP's Indonesia Program, Ben has overseen the development of: 7 coastal community resource centers; restoration and community co-management of 600 hectares of mangrove forest; and the development of numerous sustainable alternative livelihood projects and environmental education programs. Ben has also published several books for MAP, including an action research curriculum and an illustrated mangrove restoration manual.
Ben is fluent in Indonesian language and lives on a small farm in the foothills of Mount Merapi above Yogyakarta, Java, where MAP's first upper watershed community resource center is under development.
