Teacher training

Following the adaptation and publication of the Curriculum guide, MAP, in collaboration with the local NGO, hosts 40-50 teachers at a “train the trainer” event led by MAP’s Educational Director.

The curriculum is formally introduced and the teachers are guided in how to implement it in the classroom, as well as in the field, resulting in the creation of a core group of teachers that will subsequently train their peers throughout the country, under the guidance of the local education coordinator and MAP’s regional coordinator.

salty current activity

In an activity from the Spanish-language Guatemala version of MAP’s curriculum, Los Marvillosos Manglares de Guatemala, teachers learn the basic chemistry of fresh and saltwater during the April 2006 training workshop in Tilapa, Guatemala.

 field trip Guatemala

A highlight of the workshop is the field trip where teachers can explore by boats the mangroves they have just been studying, and apply all they have learned to a real-life exploration. Here teachers are taken through the mangroves that are part of the Ramsar site Manchon-Guamuchal, on the Pacific Coast of Guatemala.
