Dredging for Dhamra Port in a couple of days

The dredging work at Dhamra in Bhadrak district to set up a major port would start within a couple of days. (4 Nov 2007) Pioneer Daily

5 November 2007

We have just learned that an international team of engineers has arrived at the site of the proposed port facility at Dhamra, India, and they plan to start dredging later this week.

The dredging itself, and the construction of the Dhama port, threaten the food sources and nesting beaches for tens of thousands of Olive Ridley Sea Turtles that congregate here every year to mate and lay their eggs.

Please send urgent messages to the construction company executive and the responsible Orissa state environmental agency, urging them to cancel the dredging at Dhamra and select a different site for their port, where it will not threaten the ancient endangered Olive Ridley Sea Turtle.

Please send emails or letters today.  See the addresses and more information here.

Extinction is forever.  Please act today to save the Olive Ridleys.

See video clips of these magnificent creatures and their spectacular arribadas.
